While I love patterns of all types, sometimes it's best to go with a solid, particularly when there is a lot going on in a particular space. You don't want your pillow patterns clashing with a bold wallpaper, for example, or a special work of art that makes a lovely statement on its own. In this photo, I opted for solids that would complement and enhance the natural tones found in the beautiful coastal painting.
Sometimes I will use a solid against a geometric pattern, to accentuate its beauty and to give the eye a place to rest.
Of course, you can always use a solid to accentuate a color found in one of your favorite patterns.
How have you used solid colors in your home decor? I would love to hear from you!
