I recently moved with my family to Concord, Massachusetts after retiring from a career in teaching Spanish. Like many who have come before me, I am continually inspired by both the natural beauty of Concord and its rich cultural history. Concord today is much like it was in the time of Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau, a beacon for artists, intellectuals and environmentalists. On daily walks to the Old North Bridge and across the Concord River I am surrounded by the sounds and colors of the natural world; the stately presence of carefully preserved historic houses along Monument Street are equally as pleasing to the senses.
Since moving to Concord I have embarked on a new career and founded Concord Pillows, LLC, indulging a lifelong passion for the colors and textures of beautiful fabrics.
Decorative pillows are especially popular these days, and opportunities to purchase them are everywhere. People rely on them to finish off a newly designed interior space, to refresh or transform an existing décor and to make their sofas and chairs more comfortable and inviting. Searching for the right pillow size and fabric combination can be fun, but it can also be overwhelming.
I believe that the decorative pillows we choose for our homes should reflect the unique style that we each possess, and should make a particular statement about ourselves, and our homes. Because so many pillows on the market today are produced abroad, in large quantities and with synthetic fabrics, I began to sew my own pillows for my home as a way to make my interior spaces unique and inviting. Using only the highest quality fabrics and trims, relying on natural fabrics to the extent possible and filling my pillows with down/feather inserts made in the USA, I was able to add style to my home in a way that was personal, and with the added benefit of being more environmentally sound.
Concord Pillows was founded with the goal of giving others the chance to make their own personal statement about their interior spaces, through decorative pillows made with quality fabrics and trims that are beautiful to look at and wonderful to touch. I believe that the loving care and painstaking attention to detail that goes into each pillow is reflected in the eye-catching beauty of each design. Unlike the many trendy, mass-produced products that can be found in catalogs, stores and online, my handcrafted pillows are meant to offer a more personal, timeless and therefore satisfying option to those who are seeking to add a touch of sophisticated style to their home, studio or office. One of my goals for 2017 is to identify textile manufacturers based here in the United States who make beautiful, sustainable fabrics using socially responsible processes, and to offer my clients products that are ethically produced and earth-friendly.
